Our history
The Iowa Beef Center at Iowa State University was formed in 1996, through a legislative mandate, in order to support the growth and vitality of the state's beef industry.
We are part of Iowa State University Extension's Agricultural and Natural Resources programming area, serving as its outreach program to cattle producers. We are the central clearinghouse for all news, programming, information and research conducted by Iowa State University related to the cattle industry.
Our team members include on-campus faculty and staff with the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and College of Veterinary Medicine, as well as ISU Extension specialists across the state. Together, we offer a wide range of services, including on-farm consultations, demonstrations, educational programs and more.
Our work
Providing local access to resourcesEach year, the Iowa Beef Center's team members help deliver the latest information directly to Iowa's producers. Our financial support ensures producers will have local access to nationally recognized experts and research.
Improving and ensuring qualityFrom the cow herd to the dinner table, the Iowa Beef Center continuously addresses beef quality. Our programs emphasize quality beef production so that consumers are guaranteed a safe, delicious product.
Boosting producer profitabilityThe Iowa Beef Center develops and uses benchmarking services, such as record systems, software and steer testing, to help producers improve their bottom line.
Providing technical supportBy joining forces with associations and industry allies, we provide technical support for the development and success of producer-directed beef supply networks.
